A cause near and dear to the hearts of many in the community of Windsor, CT, Weekend Wheels is a supplemental food program that helps provide food to children (elementary through middle-school aged) within our community.
A high number of students receive school meals during the week but are lacking food on weekends. Weekend Wheels was created by the Windsor Hunger Action Team to help fill that void and keep students fed. Their goal is to keep participants nutritiously satisfied throughout the weekend so they can enter the next week ready to focus and learn. Students receive bags containing breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, shelf milk, juice, fresh bakery items and fresh fruit, all thanks to the support of people like you.
Since launching in 2013, the Weekend Wheels Program has distributed over 21,400 backpacks filled with supplemental food to Windsor children in need. That is approx. 219,500 pounds of food!
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020, the distribution process was quickly changed from delivery at school to a direct home delivery without missing one week of distributions. Your support helps continue this important work.
Weekend Wheels is a program of the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank.
